CABLEready Helps Fill Gap Left By Strike
November 21
Factual distributor CABLEready is benefiting from the ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike, closing deals with eight networks that rely on US programme acquisitions.
The indie finalised five European sales. DOMINICK DUNNE’S POWER, PRIVILEGE & JUSTICE will air on Spain’s La Sexta (47×60′) and on Planet Justice in France, which picked up 41×60′ episodes via distributor ZED. Spain and Portugal’s Biography Channels each bought 8×30′ episodes of behind-the-scenes series INFANITY, while in Austria, ATV acquired eight episodes of the Weather Channel’s series IT COULD HAPPEN TOMORROW (22×30′) via Germany’s Telcast.
Asian deals have been inked with Korea’s Wellmade Networks, which picked up documentary series GREAT MUSEUMS (13×30′/6×60′) alongside two one-hour episodes of US military technology exposé PERFECT WAR, and with ATV Hong Kong for one-off documentary BRAT CAMP CHINA.
Viasat4 in Norway also went for documentary specials, acquiring STURGIS, about one of the US’s longest-running motorcycle rallies, in Sturgis, South Dakota, and SAN QUENTIN UNLOCKED, which chronicles life inside San Quentin State Prison through the eyes of employees and two inmates trying to make parole. The sales add to an already strong MIPCOM result for CABLEready, which announced multiple sales from day one of last month’s market.
“These deals are a testament to the relationships CABLEready has built up over 15 years across the globe,” said VP of sales and marketing Sabrina Toledo. “Broadcasters have come to recognise us as a dependable supplier of high-quality programming that attracts audiences in the major demographic categories.”
